Gemini OCR

Privacy

What happens to your API key, your documents and your results.

Gemini OCR has no accounts and no server that handles your files. Documents go from your browser to Google's Gemini API, so Google's terms apply to them. This page explains each part.

Your API key

Your Gemini API key is stored only in this browser's local storage, lightly obfuscated. That is convenience storage, not encryption: anyone with access to this browser profile could recover it. The key is sent only to Google's Gemini API. Remove it in Settings at any time.

Your documents

  • Simple OCR, Templates and Bulk OCR send the file from your browser to the Gemini API. Some PDFs are uploaded through Google's Files API; the app deletes them when it is done, and Google deletes any left over after 48 hours.
  • Link to Text sends the links you paste to Gemini, which fetches the pages. These requests are made with storage turned off.
  • Agent OCR uses Google's Interactions API with storage on, so the agent can work across several steps. Google keeps these records for 1 day on the free tier and up to 55 days on a paid tier. You can delete the records from your current session in Agent OCR, and others in Google AI Studio.
  • Source regions, when you turn them on, send the page image to Gemini once more to locate the text.
  • The Markdown Converter never sends anything anywhere: conversion runs on your device.

What Google does with them

Google's Gemini API terms govern this. On the free tier, Google may use what you send to improve its products, and human reviewers may read it, so don't send sensitive or personal documents with a free key. On a paid tier, Google doesn't use it to improve its products and keeps it only for a limited time to detect abuse. Users in the EEA, Switzerland and the UK get the paid-tier handling on every tier.

Your results

Extraction results are saved in this browser's IndexedDB so you can reopen them, up to 200 entries. The history never includes your source files or your API key. Turn it off in Settings or clear it from the history panel.

Analytics

Google Analytics runs only if you allow it. Ad storage and Google signals stay off. It records page views, which buttons and modes are used, the model you pick and the category of any error. It never receives your documents, extracted text, links or API key. Change your choice under Analytics preferences in the footer.

Hosting

The site is served by Vercel, which processes standard request data such as IP addresses to deliver pages.
